 SIMPLE PAST

(Simple Present) – I watch TV every evening (Eu assisto TV toda noite.)

(simple Past) – I watched TV yesterday evening. ( Eu assisti TV ontem à noite.)

WATCHED (watched está no simple past)

O Simple Past é normalmente formado colocando -ED nos verbos (verbos regulares)

Work – worked 

clean – cleaned

 start – started 

kiss - kissed

Stay – stayed 

arrive – arrived 

dance – danced

 open – opened

Ex:

• This morning I cleaned my bedroom.

(Esta manhã eu limpei meu quarto.)

• Terry worked in a bank from 1986 to 1993.

(Terry trabalhou em um banco de 1986 a 1993.)

• Yesterday it rained all morning. It stopped at lunchtime.

(Ontem choveu a manhã toda. Parou na hora do almoço.)

• We enjoyed the party last night. We danced a lot and talked to a lot of people.

(Nós aproveitamos a festa noite passada. Nós dançamos muito e conversamos com muitas pessoas.)

• The party finished at midnight.

(A festa terminou à meia-noite.)

Obs:

a) Verbos terminados em consoante + Y, altera para -IED.

Try – tried 

study – studied 

copy – copied

b) Verbos terminados em consoante + vogal + consoante, repete a última letra e acrescenta -ED

Stop – stopped 

plan – planned

Alguns verbos são irregulares. O Simple Past não é formado com -ED. Aqui estão alguns verbos irregulares importantes. ( há uma lista na página 318 do livro didático)
